From the Yarra River to the Mediterranean Sea

The podcast seeks to be a conversation starter for those who seek to break beyond the binaries and labels of pro-Israel and pro-Palestine that often accompany such conversations.

Season 1 was recorded between December 2023 - October 2024.  Hosted by Hannah Baker and Ittay Flescher, this podcast is a conversation between two Jews in Melbourne and Jerusalem about war and peace.

Each episode touches on a different theme relating to the experience of Australian Jews on the left during this war. Conversations range from the hosts' experiences in Jewish day schools to the importance of learning history from both Israeli and Palestinian perspectives. With an agenda towards promoting voices of tolerance and coexistence, guests have included Israeli peace activist Mushon Zer Aviv, Palestinian journalist Lana Ikelan, daughter of Iran Elica Le Bon and a joint episode with Ibrahim Abu Ahmad from Nazareth, and Amira Mohammed from East Jerusalem who host the Unapologetic Third Narrative podcast.

In two episodes focusing on healing after grief, they welcomed Maoz Inon from Israel, who lost both his parents on October 7 and Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib from the US who lost 31 members of his family in Gaza.

The podcast seeks to be a conversation starter for those who seek to break beyond the binaries and labels of pro-Israel and pro-Palestine that often accompany such conversations. Ultimately, it seeks to comfort the troubled and trouble the comfortable.

"I really appreciate the message of your latest episode. We need to dream for a path to justice, peace, and reconciliation for everyone between the river and the sea."
